The June meeting of the bird
June 1, 2015 I was lucky to get on the tour, which was organized by the Union of the Protection of Birds. Excursions led by remarkable specialists Georgi S. Erёmkin, Viktor Solodushkin and Natalia Bondarev. The road ran through a unique place near Moscow Upper Yauzsky wetland complex, and then through Elk Island National Park.
First of all Yauzskie marshes attracted us because it settled in Moscow's largest colony of gulls lake. Specialists account for it in the 6-7 thousand pairs of birds. Of course, it looks very impressive assemblage.
The interest of the people concerned about the seagulls and we did not linger too long within the colony. We wanted to see whether the already hatched chicks. But until the chicks were not enough, we were able to see only two motley chaychat who hid in a thicket of grass.

The head of the expedition has taken a single sortie, and brought us to see the eggs of gulls. Experts say that it will not harm the birds, but I certainly do not recommend repeating this experiment. Seagulls jealously protect their offspring.
Wetland complex pleased us not only birds, but also beautiful plants. So we saw the calla marsh, which is a Red Book plant for many regions of Russia.
In the forest of the park on the way to the water pumping station we met a large number of birds and their chicks grown. Starlings and snowbird dragged caterpillars and worms and young skvorchatam drozdyatam. Flycatcher and then enters the hollow of his high on berёze.Na this photo bird in the center of the frame, and the hollow of the left below. The entrance of the hollow so beautiful and round, as if he did a drill ...
The photo of Natalia Bondareva seen as Flycatcher perched on the edge of the hollow.
And here's another one duplognёzdniki, met us on the road ... In this picture (the author - Natalia Bondarev) can be easily distinguished young nuthatch from its parent. Guess how!
It's only the beginning of June, and nuthatches-fingerlings in appearance indistinguishable from parents already!
Many of the birds we have not seen, but learned by singing. Heard thrushes - singing and black, willow warbler and Common Chiffchaff, finches and icterine warbler. And as many as three types of warblers - gray Slavka, garden warbler, blackcap. And the water singing sedge warbler and river warbler, and, of course, the nightingales!
Soon we came to another part Yauzsky wetland. Here we caught a rare opportunity to meet for Moscow and the Moscow region ducks - gray duck and shoveler, the only known nest in the county Common Gull, charming water rats and muskrats. Seen grebes, eared grebe, Pochard, Tufted Duck.
On the open water surface, we met a duck, mallard with brood. Chicks-puhovichki kept tightly-tightly to my mother, and did not have time to gape popadёshsya crow or marsh Lun.

We met a nice bird and coots. Despite the fact that she spends much time in the water, it is not duck. This waterfowl Pastushkova family (cousin rather cranes). Even at her feet not webbed, and leatherback rim. Learn coots easy on black plumage and white leathery patches on the forehead, due to which it got its name. And swimming coot, funny bowing at every movement.
(Photo by Natalia Bondareva). Nestling coots is very funny. White spots like my mother on his head yet, head bright red-orange, all of it is covered with black down, the feet appear too large. When coots chicks they become very aggressive, we have seen how they chase ducks.
(Photo by Natalia Bondareva) Please note that when coot in a hurry, it practically runs on the water as on dry land.
From this place, we were able to see a colony of seagulls on the other side. On the picturesque dry tree were even more spectacular gull.
Ends excursion acquaintance with interesting and quite nice to look at, but very sinister caterpillar grass lasiocampidae.
This large caterpillar feeds on grasses and sedges, especially preferred hedgehog team. She needs a relatively large amount of water if the water is not enough, it attacks other kind of tracks and drains them. Such is the caterpillar cannibal.
Summer time is great! I wish you all success in bird watching!
