During the war with Finland, if one of the tasks, Nikulin froze his feet. Fortunately, there were no serious consequences. The outbreak of war with Germany caught Nikulin there, near Leningrad. His battery had to fend off German planes attacked the Gulf of Finland on the first day of the war.

    Nikulin survived the blockade days and times in this difficult time, visited Leningrad, while in 1943 did not go to the hospital with pneumonia. Almost immediately after the exit from the hospital he was hit by enemy artillery fire and a contusion on the back treatment. Return to the front of Senior Sergeant Nikulin in the summer of the same year. Until the end, he participated in the fighting, finding the day of victory in the Baltic States.

    After the war, because of their age Nikulin had to spend a year in the army, and finally he was demobilized only in 1946.
